Comfort and sedation

Surgery here is done with numbing. Sedation is a choice you make with the surgeon, and you ask any question first.

You are numbed for every procedure, and you can ask for a break. If you choose sedation, the surgeon who gives it holds the state permit for that level, and you are monitored from start to finish.

In brief

  • Numbing for every procedure

  • Sedation, if you and the surgeon agree

  • A trained person watches you throughout

Ways we keep you comfortable

From the lightest to the deepest.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Local numbing

The area is numbed so you feel pressure and not pain. You stay awake and can talk to us.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Nitrous oxide

A mild gas that takes the edge off. It wears off quickly.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Oral sedation

A pill taken before the visit. You need an adult to drive you home.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Intravenous sedation

Given by the surgeon through a small tube in your arm, with your heart, oxygen and breathing watched. You need an adult to drive you home.

Comfort, alternatives, risks and fees

What to expect, said plainly.

  • Comfort

The sedation permit: the owner enters the permit each surgeon holds, and which levels it covers.

  • Alternatives and waiting

If you'd rather not be sedated, local numbing alone is an option for many procedures. Tell us, and we'll say whether yours can be done that way.

  • Risks and after-care

Sedation can cause nausea, drowsiness and, rarely, breathing problems, and some health conditions raise the risk. The surgeon asks about your health and your medicines before suggesting a level. You are told when to stop eating and drinking beforehand.

  • How it is billed

You get the fee for each step in writing before it starts, and a written estimate if you pay without insurance. No price is quoted over the phone or by message.
